When the homeowners began thinking about improvements to the front of their home, they wanted more than just a small decorative upgrade. Their goal was to create an entrance that felt more welcoming, substantial, and visually connected to the rest of the home. They envisioned adding a covered portico that would give the front entry greater definition while incorporating architectural details such as columns, upgraded lighting, and durable finishes designed to enhance the home's curb appeal.
The project centered around the construction of a new 37-square-foot wall-attached A-frame portico over the existing concrete pad. By utilizing the existing concrete area as the foundation for the new entrance structure, the design could transform the space into a more functional and visually striking feature without changing the overall footprint of the entryway.
To support the new portico and create the classic architectural look Gloria and Tony were looking for, 6-inch round columns were installed and securely footed on top of the existing concrete pad. The columns add height, dimension, and a sense of permanence to the entrance while helping frame the new covered space.
Above, the A-frame structure was finished with a Drexel standing seam metal roofing system in high-gloss black. The bold black metal roof creates a clean contrast and gives the portico a distinctive finished appearance. In addition to its visual impact, the standing seam metal roofing system provides a durable and long-lasting solution designed to protect the entrance from the elements.
Attention was also given to the details underneath the new roofline. Charter Oak InvisiVent vinyl soffit was installed to create a clean, finished underside while allowing for proper ventilation. Azek trim was incorporated throughout the project to provide crisp lines and durable, low-maintenance detailing around the new structure.
The homeowners also wanted the new entrance to be functional in addition to beautiful. Electrical work was included to accommodate a new porch light and ceiling fan, helping turn the covered entry into a more comfortable and usable space. These additions provide both practical lighting and airflow while giving the finished portico an added layer of convenience.
The completed project will give the front of this home an entirely new presence. What was once a simple entry area will become a defined architectural focal point, complete with a covered A-frame roof, round columns, premium trim, standing seam metal roofing, and integrated electrical features.
More than just an exterior addition, the new portico is designed to change the way the home welcomes guests. With its combination of classic columns, bold black roofing, and carefully selected finishing details, the project brings together function, protection, and curb appeal to create an entrance that feels intentional, inviting, and built to last.
