FROM DATED VINYL TO JAMES HARDIE COBBLESTONE: A COMPLETE FAIRLESS HILLS TRANSFORMATION

When we arrived at this Fairless Hills home, the existing exterior was finished in vinyl siding and was ready for an update. The homeowners wanted more than a simple change in color. They wanted to completely change the appearance of the house and give the exterior a cleaner, more substantial look.

For this project, we installed James Hardie vertical siding in Cobblestone across all sides of the home.

The project started with a complete removal of the existing vinyl siding. Taking the old siding off rather than simply covering it allowed us to properly prepare the exterior for the new siding system and gave us access to the layers underneath.

Once the vinyl was removed, the exterior was prepared for the new installation. We installed a HydroGap moisture barrier behind the siding as part of the new exterior assembly. Proper moisture management is an important part of any siding replacement, and installing the barrier before the new siding provided an appropriate layer behind the finished exterior.

With the exterior prepared, we began installing the James Hardie vertical siding in Cobblestone.

The vertical profile was a major part of the design direction for this home. Instead of the horizontal lines created by the previous vinyl siding, the new vertical siding gives the exterior a taller, cleaner, and more architectural appearance. The Cobblestone color keeps the overall look neutral and sophisticated while allowing the new siding profile to stand out.

We also paid close attention to the areas where the siding meets the home's openings and corners. James Hardie corner posts were installed to create clean transitions at the corners of the house. Around the two doors, new trim was installed to give the openings a finished appearance that coordinates with the new siding.

The windows received 4" trim, adding another layer of definition around the home's openings. These details may seem small compared with the overall siding installation, but they make a significant difference in how the completed exterior comes together.

The soffit and fascia were also replaced as part of the exterior renovation, completing the upper portions of the home and giving the new siding a clean transition at the roofline.

Once everything was finished, the difference between the original vinyl exterior and the completed James Hardie installation was dramatic. The Cobblestone vertical siding completely changed the home's appearance, while the new trim, corner details, soffit, fascia, and moisture barrier brought the entire exterior together as one finished system.

This Fairless Hills project is a great example of what can happen when a siding replacement is approached as a complete exterior renovation rather than simply changing the siding material. From the initial tear-off and moisture barrier to the siding profile, corners, window trim, door trim, soffit, and fascia, every part of the exterior was addressed to create a finished result that looks intentional from every angle.

The end result is a home with a completely new first impression, combining the clean architectural look of James Hardie vertical siding in Cobblestone with the craftsmanship and attention to detail that went into the entire exterior renovation.
