A Macungie Home Goes From Warped Vinyl to James Hardie Evening Blue
Challenge
There was a pretty simple starting point for this Macungie project. The existing vinyl siding was showing warping and fading.
After years on the house, the siding had lost some of the consistency and appearance it once had. The homeowner was ready to stop looking at an exterior that was visibly aging and start looking at something that felt like an upgrade. But replacing the siding wasn't the only idea on the table. There was also interest in adding a small front porch, improving insulation, and potentially replacing the windows and doors. That made this more than a conversation about siding. It became a conversation about what the exterior of the home could become.
Solution
The Solution
For the siding, the answer was James Hardie Cedarmill in Evening Blue. The entire house would receive the new siding, eliminating the inconsistent appearance created by the aging vinyl and giving the home one cohesive exterior. The selected 7 1/4" profile brought the traditional Cedarmill character to the house, while Evening Blue provided the visual change the homeowner was looking for. The result would be a siding system that didn't try to imitate the old exterior.
It replaced it completely.
Why Evening Blue?
Color can completely change the personality of a home. That was especially true here. The old vinyl had become faded over time, while the new Evening Blue color creates a deeper and more intentional appearance. Paired with the Cedarmill profile, the color gives the home both texture and character. Instead of an exterior that simply looked older, the house now had a defined design direction.
The Result
The completed siding installation transformed the exterior from top to bottom. The warped and faded vinyl was replaced across the entire home with James Hardie Cedarmill siding in Evening Blue. The 7 1/4" profile adds texture and dimension, while the darker blue tone gives the house a completely different presence. What started as a straightforward siding problem became an opportunity to rethink the home's entire exterior aesthetic.
The Takeaway
The challenge was easy to identify. The old vinyl was warped. It was faded, and it was ready to be replaced. The interesting part was what came next. Instead of simply replacing old siding with something similar, the homeowner chose to use the project as an opportunity to give the home a new identity. The problem was the old siding. The solution was Evening Blue. Sometimes that's what a good exterior renovation is really about—not just fixing what has aged, but creating something you're excited to come home to.
