From Stucco to a Stronger Exterior
Challenge
Uncovering Hidden Wood Rot Beneath the Stucco
A Collegeville homeowner reached out to Preferred Home Improvement after being referred to us by a family member. The homeowners were looking to update the exterior of their home, which was originally built in 2000. Their goal was to remove the existing stucco and replace it with siding, while adding a stone band along the bottom of the new siding for an updated, finished appearance.
The Discovery
What began as an exterior transformation uncovered a much more significant concern beneath the surface.
Once the existing stucco was removed, our team discovered areas of rotting wood behind the exterior. Because the wood was concealed beneath the stucco, the extent of the deterioration was not visible during the initial evaluation.
This is one of the reasons proper preparation and removal are such important parts of an exterior remodeling project. Simply installing new siding over compromised materials would not provide the long-term protection the home needs.
Solution
The Solution
With the stucco removed and the damaged areas exposed, the next step is to address the deteriorated wood and ensure the home's exterior is properly prepared for its new siding system.
The affected wood will be replaced as needed before the new siding is installed. The planned transformation will replace the home's dated stucco exterior with durable, attractive siding, complemented by a stone band along the bottom of the home for added character and curb appeal.
The Bigger Picture
This project is a great example of how an exterior renovation can reveal problems that have been hidden for years. A home built in 2000 can experience moisture intrusion and material deterioration long before those issues become obvious from the outside.
By removing the existing stucco and addressing what was found underneath, Preferred Home Improvement can help ensure the new exterior isn't just a cosmetic upgrade—it's a properly prepared system designed to protect the home for years to come.
